Arra

Arra is a sweet little pony mare with metabolic issues (she is a little pudgy).  Her owner has also pointed out an apparent connection to her recent Adequan injections.  She has had 3 episodes of acute laminitis now.

When asked to help in this case, this time I recommended going to see Dr. Morrison with Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital.

March 15, 2005

Her radiographs showed a healthy bone with about 2 millimeters of sole depth (not much) according to Dr. Morrison.  He felt that a special shoe which brings the break over point back dramatically more would increase the depth of sole.  This shoe also reduces pressure of the deep digital flexor tendon by raising the heels a little.

Before.  She also had soft wedge pads taped on.  She had been laying down quite a bit.
This is Dr. Morrison's rail shoe.  The gray material coming through the holes is dental impression material, which is soft and disperses pressure throughout the sole.  He uses Equilox with Kevlar fiber which is extremely strong.
The Equilox is curing.
Notice the balance and support.

Loading and unloading her from the trailer showed she liked the shoes.  As she walked back to the stall back at Paxton Farm, she felt as though she might want to trot.  Don't worry, we won't let her.
